Owner Becky Ayers has been with The Chama since the 1980's, when her sister convinced her to take on a part-time job since both her children were in school. What started as a part-time job quickly transformed into much more---Becky soon became the store manager and one of the buyers. She worked closely with the original owner of The Chama, Joanna Wood, who mentored her. After Joanna's death, Becky puchased the store to carry on The Chama's tradition of showcasing interesting, unique clothing and jewelry in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
Using the tools she learned with Joanna's guidance, Becky kept the integrity of what The Chama meant to the community while adding her own personal touches.
As a buyer, Becky's foundation is centered on great quality clothing that is timeless, comfortable and unique. She believes strongly in buying American made products but does have a weakness for beautifully designed imported lines like Sympli, Lauren Vidal and Mado Au Tus to name a few. The concept of buying quality vs. quantity is important--- items you buy at The Chama are made to last and often times are worn by their owners many years after purchase. Becky truly does focus on buying the crème de la crème of products for her customers. When someone walks out the door at The Chama, they know they have purchased something special.
When she isn't working, Becky can usually be found cooking or baking some delectable edible treat or spending time with her granddaughter.
